Dear Colleagues,
The Society for Text and Discourse is deeply concerned about recent actions by the current U.S. federal administration that will undermine federally funded research and restrict access to essential scientific data.
Our members seek to understand the fundamental role of language, text, and discourse in human cognition, education, and society at large. This work informs impactful interventions and innovations that improve the lives of millions of people globally, and crucially depends on sustained research funding and unrestricted access to data. Interruptions in funding and barriers to data accessibility not only hinder ongoing projects but also weaken the foundation for future advancements in scientific discovery and innovation.
Preserving open, rigorous scholarship in discourse and text analysis is essential for addressing real-world challenges, from curbing the harmful spread of misinformation to promoting necessary literacy skills for all citizens. The Society for Text and Discourse remains dedicated to advocating for policies that uphold the integrity of scientific inquiry and ensure a stable research environment.
Finally, the Society for Text & Discourse remains committed to equity and inclusion. We reiterate our commitment to support our diverse members from any and all backgrounds, and to promote research that embraces how diverse cultures and perspectives play a role in discourse processes.
